Attend Academy

All New Hampshire Department of Corrections Officers must attend and successfully complete the NH Corrections Academy at the NH Police Standards and Training Council

The NH Corrections Academy is an eight-week academy held at the NH Police Standards and Training center, located adjacent to NHTI - Concord's Community College at 17 Institute Drive in Concord, NH.

The eight-week academy for new officers provides them with the tools and resources needed to work in a correctional environment. All graduates received a variety of training including ethics, stress management, communications, contraband introduction, mental health, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), scenarios, and constitutional law. The recruit officers receive approximately 40 hours of physical fitness training, training in defensive tactics, certification in baton and pepper spray, and corrections-specific laws. Following graduation, the recruit officers will attend 2 weeks of post-academy firearms training before returning to their facilities.

Every State Trooper, Conservation Officer, Liquor Investigator, Gaming Investigator, State Corrections Officer, Probation and Parole Officer, University Police Officer, Marine Patrol Officer, Sheriff or Deputy, City or Municipal Police Officer, full or part-time, in the State of New Hampshire, receives their primary training and much of their in-service training through Police Standards and Training.

The academies are only open to those who have been hired to work as law enforcement officers in the State of New Hampshire. There are no tuition students.
